I have started getting "no rear camera detected" on our 2018 Jayco Greyhawk 29mv. Any suggestions on trouble shooting this?

Thanks in advance,

Steve

There should be a box under the dash somewhere where the cameras plugin. Try switching the order of the connections. That is, disconnect one lead and see which camera goes out. Put it back then try another. Once you determine which wire goes yo which camera, swap a working side camera lead with the rear and see if it is detected. If it is the box needs to be replaced. If not the camera likely needs to be replaced.

Thanks, do you know where under the dash this is likely to be. Would it be hidden behind a panel or in clear sight?

Thanks again for you quick response.

Steve

On my Forrester, one had to pop out the section of the dashboard under the steering wheel. You may want to get under there with a flashlight to see if you can see it before tearing things apart.

Even better, call Jayco and ask where it is.

I removed the panel and found a box with 4 wires going in and 1 coming out. The wires were permanently attached. I found 3 connectors away from the box, which were labeled CA1, CA2 and CA3. These went to the 3 cameras as when I disconnected one at a time the associated camera would cause the screen to return to the main screen on the Garmin with no specific notification. Apparently it knew there was no camera. The other thing, all the time I was troubleshooting the rear camera was working except when I unplugged its connection. If I hit the camera button on the Garmin when the coach is not running and not in the ACC mode, I get the same message (no rear camera detected) that I saw the other day when I was backing up but if the coach is running or in the ACC mode and I disconnect CA1 the screen just goes back to the main screen with no message. Sounds like there is possibly an issue at times with power to the camera. Do you know where and how power is supplied?

Thanks,
Steve

I beleuve power is supplied by the cable from the box. On mine there was no other cable running to the camera.

Have you tried switching the Ca1and CA2 wires to see if the rear camera behaves normally?

The RV is in storage at the moment and I've played with all three cameras multiple times for a couple of days and I can't duplicate the problem. The next trip I will see what happens, hopefully it was just a fluke. If not, switching between one of the other connections sounds like a good idea. You mention the box again, as I stated earlier the box I found had 4 leads going in and 1 coming out all of which appeared to be permanent connections. Is that the box you are referring to?

Yes CA1, CA2,etc

I have just brought the RV home from storage and during the short drive including a stop and backing up and also backing into my driveway the rear camera was not working. This morning I started the RV to reposition it in the driveway and no rear camera. I then drove out and backed in and the rear camera was working. Started the RV after an hour or so and no rear camera. I have switched connections under the dash between CA1 and CA2 and the left camera shows when the rear camera should. Do you know if there are any other connections between CA1 and the camera itself that could be loose? I have tried tapping on the rear camera / light with a rubber mallet and no change. I guess my next move is to replace the camera.

Pull the rear camera and check connection at the camera. On my class C, purchased new, I had to replace one side camera and the rear camera.

Thanks for your quick response, and what can I expect to see as far as connectors and how to test the ones related to the camera? It will be pretty obvious if there is a loose connection but beyond that I would like to be sure it is the camera before buying a new one.

Thanks,

Steve

You would primarily be looking for a loose connection at the camera. You could check for continuity on the wire, but it may be easier just to try a replacement camera. Try the new camera on each line, if need be.

Just returned from a 6 hour each way trip and had the camera come on part way through both 6 hour legs and stay on for approximately 1 hour This made me think there was a loose connection somewhere but had no where to look beyond under the dash. While gone I ordered a new light / camera from Amazon at a very reasonable price. Got home and plugged the new camera in and problem solved. I will say it was a very tight squeeze getting the wires back into the coach. Everything I saw led me to believe there was a loose connection somewhere and maybe there was a loose connection internally of the camera itself. It didn't look like they had done a great job of sealing everything as a couple of the screws covering the camera section were corroded.

Found this on a Google search and registered JUST to ask you if you figured out what was going on because this is 100% exactly what's happening to my 2018 RedHawk 31XL. I went through the process of removing the dash and the head unit, found the cable, disconnected, re-seated, and at SOME POINT in the process it started working even after putting it all back in. Then...next morning...it didn't work... I didn't move the rig or anything overnight. Needless to say, it's a bit frustrating and I ASSUME it's a bad cable.

Did you ever figure yours out?
