As I was turning into a Travel America parking space for lunch, I heard a lot pop. Looking in the rear camera, I saw my bumper cover being pulled from the truck. By the grace of God, five truckers were traveling together, hauling generators to DC, and before I could get back to the rear of the motorhome, they were all over, checking the damage.

I trailered it home and will further assess the damage once in the body shop, where we can get the damaged area more visible. It appears that on the passenger side, the frame weld broke where the Roadmaster base plate attached. I noticed in the area of the break, it appears to have been rusting for a while.

The truckers helped, well, they really didn't help, they got everything tie-wrapped and strapped down, loaded it on the trailer, and strapped it down securely. I would ask what I could do to help, and their best answer was to stay out of our way. We've got this! I tried every way in the world to compensate them, and it just wasn't happening. They had been stuck at the truck stop for 3 days because the jobsite where they were delivering the 80,000-pound generators wasn't ready to accept delivery.

They had their Blackstone griddle and small pellet smoker set up in their makeshift park, and they insisted we have dinner with them. Since we had parked next to them, we watched the Texas A&M vs Miss State football game, gig'em Aggies during dinner.

I guess you can say we took lemons and made lemonade. Oh, and Ted, the leader of the group, called every day checking on our progress getting home.

Wow. I'm sure you saw/read my near disaster along the same line when I found my baseplate was loose and it was a broken weld. I'm glad you stumbled across great people and hope you can get things fixed up and even better in the end which is how I like to turn bad into better.

Doing some research, there are some complaints about the frame being a weak link. I'm thinking about getting a different toad, but I'm not excited about any of the choices. I towed Jeeps for years, but my old body doesn't take kindly to the bouncing around. I may go drive a Gladiator at some point because I really want to stay with a pickup.
