Folks,
My rig has a single Airxcel, Coleman/Mach rooftop/ceiling air conditioner. The A/C unit has had very few hours of use. The RV itself has about 8,000 miles on the odometer.
A few days ago I started prep for an upcoming trip. Upon starting the A/C it ran for about 20 seconds then quit. Still does.
Similar situation when only using the Fan setting.
I‘ve checked for obstructions to airflow and have not detected any. The unit doesn’t run long enough for the Freeze sensor to activate. Likewise, it doesn’t run long enough to over heat.
The only peculiar thing I’ve noticed is two wires that are hanging loose. One is a thin, brown wire with a female spade connector. It seems to be part of the fan bundle. The other wire is a heavier blue/black wire that is part of a two strand, the other strand being black. The loose strand is stripped at the end, and the strands of the end are twisted together.
I have never had this panel open before, so I have no idea how these wires became loose, or, if it matters?
I contacted the local Coleman repair facility, Camping World, and they said they would have to see the RV.

Anybody have a suggestion? All are very welcome.

Best,
Jack

First I would say that the presence of unused or seemingly disconnected wires is common on RVs to the extreme. Doing some wirin yesterday I encountered numerous wire ends and whole plugs that exist in the wiring harness but are not used on my model.

Second I would try to find a good independent RV shop with an AC specialist to trouble shoot your unit and consider Camping World only as a last resort or to buy a replacement AC unit if necessary.

Thanks, Rich, for the quick reply. I wondered the same thing, since the unit has run flawlessly up to now, and nobody has been inside that panel before.

There is a shop nearby that works on trucks and RV’s. I’ll give them a call.

Does anybody have a wiring schematic for this unit?? I’ve looked and looked and can’t find one.

Last year I had an air conditioner that developed a leak somewhere and lost its charge. It could have been repaired but I ended up just replacing it because it’s difficult to find an AC tech that will work on RV AC units and I was on the road. RV AC units are not designed to recharge, although it can be done.

A lost charge would be my first guess for your unit except that it has the same symptom on fan only. That seems more like an electrical or electronic issue but a good tech can diagnose it and give you options of repair or replace. I’ve replaced one myself which wasn’t too difficult other than getting it up on the roof. I also had one replaced on my current rig and the labor was only $100, although the unit was an $1800 heat pump.
