Hello All Roadtrekers!
I noticed today our Dometic thermostat was causing our AC to run non-stop by it not being able to reach set temperature. Even though the set temperature in the RV was reached. After doing some studying of the matter I believe I determined what is causing the AC to constantly run.
The thermostat is on the wall of the side of the camper that is facing the afternoon sun. Additional note, this campground is one without trees or any form of shade. When I held my hand up to the side window adjacent to the wall holding the thermostat I could just feel the heat radiating through the window. I went outside to study the outer area of the Roadtrek RV and notice the other wall is where the full panel tinted black window is located directly outside the wall where the Dometic thermostat hangs on the inside wall too.
So, my determination is the heat from the sun pounding on those outer windows with no shade or trees to protect those windows is skewing the thermostat in getting a higher temperature reading than it actually is inside the camper. Thus determining the AC does not have the RV up to set temperature.
I’m thinking of placing a sunshield on that adjacent inside window to help some.
Did anyone else notice this issue, and if so, curious to know what you may have done to resolve the issue of the thermostat running the AC non-stop because of skewing the temperature in the RV from the sun radiating heat through the window adjacent and wall behind the thermostat.
Thank you in advance for any suggestions.
