Howdy folks. The wife and I are retiring in August and have decided to take the Class A or C plunge. We’re in Virginia and have a place in MX that we’re looking forward to visiting more often.

Right now we’re on the hunt but would really appreciate some help on what to look for and stay away from. We’ll mostly plug in at campgrounds but may boondock from time to time. I’ve spent a bunch of time researching tips and tricks but nothing’s better than your experience.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Welcome aboard!

You will have to find a floor plan that you like. Then balance the quality, with what you can afford to pay for, in addition to maintenance, fuel and camping fees. Floor plan is king.

For A’s Newmar, Entegra, and maybe Tiffin are the high quality brands.

Which style exterior do you prefer C with overhang, C with no overhang over the cab, A?

What is your budget, and how often do you plan to use it? Will you be towing a vehicle? Most gassers can only tow 5000 lbs.

Go see them. Sit in them. Test drive them.

Take your time looking and testing. It is better to take a year or more figuring out what you need, like, and want. Otherwise you can end up losing a lot of money on trade-ins, getting to what you want.

You may even try renting a few toget a better feel for what will fit you best.

All sage advice. We’re trying to take our time but it’s not easy. The units don’t stay on the market long right now. We’re headed to Mexico in early October and plan to stop in the Phoenix area on our way back. Seems like there’s a good bit of inventory and the prices are about 25% lower. We may rent one for a trip in the US to get a feel for units and cost of trips. Thanks again.
