Friend of mine has had 3 windows become totally separated from frame. (Glass actually separates from frame!) Going to Camp Newmar for replacements. Newmar stated they changed suppliers for the windows.

Dear Bobnjill410. Just updating your post. The number is actually 5 separating...

Here is a tip. Do not use duct tape on your paint only painters FROG tape. These windows will fall to the pavement.

Thanks BobnJill for inviting me to this forum. This is my first post, as I am new to this forum.

2020 Dutch Star 4369

Welcome to RVF, @BobbyJ; glad to have you. And, sorry for your issues with the windows in your 2020 Dutch Star. I'm sure Newmar will take care of you. We've had two Newmars and the company has always been good to work with.

Dear TJ

Going to Camp Newmar on Aug 29. They have my list and looking forward to getting the windows replaced. I just hope they (the supplier) has corrected the adhesive issue.

2020 Dutch Star + soon to tow 2015 Yukon XL (after I install the AF1).

When the window on my Discovery separated the factory repair tech said the windows were being set to deep into the window opening and which causes pressure to the outside glass. Over time and bad roads causing them to separate.

They use the same windows in the Ventana. Our bathroom window separated from the frame. Believe the took glass off, cleaned everything good and then used better adhesive to put it all back together. I might have caused the problem, as I tend to overtighten them. I have sense tried to lighten my force and just snug it down a little. So far it's holding just fine. There are numerous reports of windows having this issue. Newmar will fix it under warranty or the 5 year part, they want you happy.

From another forum...

"
Forest River recently issued a recall for 783 units in the 2020 model year for Lippert (formerly Hehr) windows. The adhesive bond between the glass and the metal hinge frame of the frameless crank out vent and egress windows may fail which would then allow the glass to detach and fall out.

If the window glass detaches while the vehicle is moving it could become a projectile, increasing the risk of crash and/or injury.
Remedy.
Forest River will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the windows for proper adhesive bond strength, replacing the windows as necessary, free of charge.

The problem I see here is that I regularly inspect my windows with a visual inspection as well as a slight tug with my finger on the vent window. All windows are good one day and then the next day I find a separation in a vent window due to the adhesive bond failing.

I’m not sure if the dealer has a different inspection than I’m doing but, if they don’t then I believe you may just have to wait and see if your windows fail and, hope it doesn’t happen while you’re driving.

Reading the posts it seems this has been going on for some time. My coach is a 2018 and I have replaced many vent windows in less than two years of ownership."

And gluing the windows is not a fix, as they are intended to insulate and should be evacuated (air removed by vacuum) to give them insulation properties, same as a thermos bottle.

You cannot tighten these enough to cause failure as the inside of the window is under pressure and makes the water seal, not the outside that fails. The problem is with the adhesive.

5 of my windows are currently in failure mode. I have a 2020 Dutch Star 4369 with 5000 miles.

We lost the entire rear bath window while on the highway last November. Fortunately no injuries or damage. Newmar paid to have it replaced.

I caught mine prior to dropping out of the frame. NM fixed it at our appt in June.

This happened to us yesterday while underway. Also the rear bath window. I saw it in the mirror flapping like a bird and MapWife hopped to the back and pulled it in, secured it with VHB Tape - while we were moving. We pulled over first chance and put more VHB tape on. We’re at the mothership at the end of August so it will stay like that until then.
