My awning ended up on the roof this past winter. Small breeze, I was right there. A small gust came up and it billowed in the center, I ran over to put it in and it was already on the roof.
Neighbors at the resort helped me reattach it after I got the fasteners and tape I needed.
What I found: That awning arm had been attached with rivets instead of screws at the bottom. Rivets into a solid wood block. The sealing butyl tape behind the support hadn't had the paper peeled off of it so it was doing no sealing at all.
