After reading the thread of the motorhome loosing brakes going down a steep decline I decided I was going to check my brakes, possibly bleeding the system. The first thing I did was go to the manual and see if there was anything different than a cars break system as I have worked on them many times. Turns out there are a few things.
1. The brake fluid is not your standard DOT 3 or even DOT 4, but a DOT 5.1 at least for the F53 chassis over 19000 lbs. The difference is the boiling point of the fluid. There is a DOT 5.0, but this is silicon based not compatible with any other brake fluid and is used for specific applications.
2. The brake fluid should be changes every 2 years.

Now I never really knew there was a time interval for changing brake fluid. I never really thought much about it. I looked a little further and all cars and trucks should have brake fluid changed every 2 years or 30,000 miles.

Kind of an eye opener for me. Guess what I’m going to be doing?
