Thanks for the response! I have about 165000 miles on it and I don’t know when the brakes were last serviced on it. I do know that when we went on a big trip recently and I did a lot of braking, they were smoking. I just want to make sure everything is on the up and up with the brakes.Depends on what it needs. If its just pads maybe $200 per axle? or $75-$100 if you do it yourself. If it needs rotors you have some decisions to make. A brake shop will likely use the cheapest they can get and charge you a premium price. How many miles on it?
The rotors are quite stout on the E450 so it probably doesn't need them unless they are noticeably warped or scored. If you shop for them yourself you can compare quality price, quality, country of origin. etc. A shop might also suggest turning your rotors and for a car thats fine, but since your rig is on the heavy side, and you might occasionally do some heavy braking, you want as much metal there as possible. Thinner rotors are likely to warp just about the time a brake job is out of warranty.
So a ball park on the price is hard to come up with without more info, but its more important to find a good trusted competent shop, and then if they say it’s $800 you’ll have a good idea the price is legit.
My grand daughter had a brake job done on a ford sedan at some quicky-lube place, they charged $1300, said they replaced all rotors and calipers but when I put tires on it for her almost a year later it was obvious they didn’t put any new parts on the rear other than pads. So if someone else is doing the work you have to find a trusted shop. More at stake here than just $$.
