Hello,
I am new here, and in the market for a family 22’ body travel trailer.
I found THE one model we are looking at conveniently located in close proximity and at the right price point on facebook marketplace.
It is a 2022 model, and the owner claims he has no time to go camping anymore….
But being sleepless and was sniffing around a bit. So on his facebook pictures I see pretty much only the trailer or his truck since the date he purchased it. Pretty braggy, but that is not my cup of tea.. rather in his defense for the below. Also, seen a tax document under his name and also the custom license plate has his name included. Title is with the bank, holding a loan that I would personally not have financed but that is also not the point. Long short is that based on his facebook photo posing/bragging I buy that it’s his “baby”. I have seen that thing, and aside some minor wear n tear it is visually in really good shape.
The catch 1: According to his marketplace history, the seller sold two slightly other (older model years) trailers one, and the other two years ago, and I have reason to believe they were used as rentals. Their description seems honest and it included detailed softspot etc. so he is not holding things back. One of the old pictures has a carpet inside the trailer that can be seen on one of the pictures of the trailer that I am looking at. The one he sold in 2023 in one picture even has the trailer I am looking at in the background.
This made my sniffy-nose go, so I googled the seller’s town and RV rental, and voilà, catch 2, I see a 4th trailer parked on his property right in front of his house as an available rental, but with a completely different renter profile name and different profile picture… it’s a different person. And delivery to the campsite only. The address where everything happens/where O have been/trailer were photographed matches the tax documents and name of the seller.
From what I captured in the first chatty sale conversation is that there must be a quazillion brothers in law in the family, and in our first meeting he told me about family camping trips. So he could build an easy alibi once I ask him what’s going on…
Oh and the seller has another braggy photo of him and his trailer (the one I am looking at) under his full name on his Good Sam profile.
He definitely knows a thing or two, and he was not holding back in pointing out (potential) issues, so I had the impression.
Fishy, but maybe not so fishy, but I’ll ask him what’s the deal of having 4 trailer for sale/rent within two years timeframe.., with his marketplace selling history and the active rental trailer that was photographed on his property… and who that other guy is...
So long short: IF the trailer was rented out, (and he’s telling me about it or not) what am I specifically looking at for potential high(er) risk of damage when I am looking at it another time? I’d have no problem if it was indeed a rental/Airbnb kinda thing and more than one person slept in the bed, but if there are high cost replacement items that are only designed for only so many working hours, I
may want to look at those/or at least have them on the $ radar…
TIA
