There are a number of RV Share sites. Many are personally owned and the owners are seeking sharing some of the costs. There are also some folks that do it for profit. This route will offer much more in the way for variety for rigs you can try out. Companies like Cruise America tend t offer only the entry level class C and some compact campers. For rentals the Class C is popular due to low cost and the highly reliable drive line which is also easy and cheap to repair when needed.

Yes, the insurance is based on just that. And so is the cost to rent.

Get whatever you decide on professionally inspected - RVIA certified inspector. There is a lot of stuff you may not find until it is too late.

Warranties have worked great for me on three new units, so far.

We had always had towables (one bumper pull and three fifth wheels) and decided we wanted a Class A. We found a used one we could afford and bought it without ever driving a Class A.

What a huge mistake that was, honestly. My wife was horrified to ride in this "ship" going down the road, so we used it very little. It was a good, solid Georgetown 34' on a Ford chassis, but it rocked and swayed and bounced and creaked and moaned and groaned going down the road. And the V-10 motor would sometimes downshift and sound like it was coming up through the floorboard climbing hills.

Oh how we longed for our 41' Cardinal fifth wheel.

After two years and just one long road trip (we did several close-by trips where my wife would drive in one of our vehicles rather than ride in the RV) we knew we had made a huge mistake so we sold the Georgetown and went back to a smaller fifth wheel and have been happy with that decision.

I recommend you rent to avoid that situation...and, buying a motorhome is very costly so if you can find a good, solid one used you'll be dollars ahead.
