Thinking about becoming a BlueFire user for a variety of reasons, but primarily because I want to monitor exhaust gas temp (EGT) at the manifold. However I can’t determine whether or not the BF exhaust temp gauge displays manifold temp (like a pyrometer) or if it shows exhaust temp farther down stream (turbo outlet temp, DPF/SCR etc), and if it does whether or not the Cummins ECU tracks this info so it can be displayed by BlueFire?

So that’s my question - in a nutshell, can you use BlueFire to measure EGT like a pyrometer? This would greatly simplify the process of monitoring an important parameter. I’ll continue to research this, and I have an email in to BF (no response yet) but I thou*t someone here might know.

Thanks!

I have been running Bluefire for about a year and a half now. I can't answer your specific question about where exhaust temperature is measured, that will have to come from Bluefire, but I can tell you that what your coaches' ECM tracks will be specific to what Freightliner/Cummins included for your coach. Your ECM may or may not track the same parameters that my coach does. It took some trial and error for me to figure out what I could follow.

On my 2016 Dutch Star I have 3 parameters available for monitoring exhaust temperatures. 1. Exhaust temperature from the engine. 2. DPF Intake temperature, and 3. DPF Exhaust temperature. I monitor DPF intake and exhaust temps on my display. I made the assumption that engine exhaust temp = DPF intake temp.

I attached a screen shot of my Bluefire display showing the parameters I monitor. I opted for text guages because I'm too old to see the numbers on the round guages. Bluefire has been working well for me.

Thanks - I like the text gauges better for this purpose too. Hopefully I‘ll hear back from BF soon.

Bluefire simply reads whatever data is coming from the ECM/Bus, whatever it is. Feel free to email them but it's really just a data reader device. I finally have mine working after sending it back for an update but need to setup a dash and figure out what I want to see.

Had ours hooked up on our Superstar for a couple 200 mile trips to the mothership and back.

Acted weird just about the end of the second trip. Lost speed on the BlueFire but the dash gauge read normal. Transmission acted strange at the same time like it was trying a lower gear instead of what it should have.

No codes or anything else that looked strange.

Personally I think it interfered with everything even though just “reading”

I have not hooked it up since and zero issues like above on the 1200 mile trip back to Florida.

Did like getting calculated fuel left since the M2 fuel gauges are way off and the def concentration etc.

This is what I got from BF:

Hi Rich,
You should be able to read it provided your ECM is transmitting the data. You best bet is to query others who have a similar configuration as yours.
You can also query these forums for help or for others with a similar configuration.
https://rvforums.com - Do a search for BlueFire to see all the posts.
VMSPC replacement option - iRV2 Forums - You can search other IRV2 forums using BlueFire.

So I’ll hook up my Diesel Decoder and wade through the 100’s of sensors and see if it reads manifold temp, turbo inlet or outlet temp, or just SCR temp. It really doesnt seem practical to try to install a pyrometer in a 35’ rear engine vehicle.
