When I drove a VW diesel I used a vacuum tool to remove the old oil. Nothing fancy just a hand pump devise.
Purchased the vehicle new in 2002 and it had 200k on it when I sold it 10 years later, still running very well and used maybe a pint of oil between 10k oil services toward the end. Never needed to add oil between changes.

The new owner is happy with the vehicle and it still runs well.

That said here is a professional mechanics vacuum tool for large vehicles. :) Something you DIY DP guys might be interested in looking at. It is a lot cleaner and no need to get on your back on the cold or hot pavement.

When I had my twin diesel inboard (boat) I had to go down below and sit between the motors and use a 12-volt pump to remove the oil. It was a very effective way to change oil in a large diesel motor.
