Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI/ChatGPT, has been involved is a years long non profit project experimenting with the Universal Basic Income (UBI). You won't have a job, but you'll get a monthly stipend, so you can buy what they produce. Kinda like how the Eloi were to the Morlocks.
You can keep your communism.

You can keep your communism.
The formula to the UBI would be the formula alluded to by Franklin Roosevelt ( in anticipation of political pushback) that would preserve social security after the act was passed in 1935, "When people start getting that check in the mail every month, let them try to take it away".

I use AI both personally and professionally, both free versions and paid versions.
AI is changing so very fast, capabilities and accuracy are improving dramatically every couple months.
When using AI for research I used to tell AI in a prompt to not make up anything or derive anything, to just give me facts. I still tell it to use reputable sources and provide a few examples based on the topic.
Now, when using paid latest versions, I no longer have to tell it to not make up items, but when using free versions, I will still provide those instructions.
When doing research I still always ask AI to provide sources, so I can spot check its work.
AI does use much more energy than simple search. But if I consider how much time it saves me I believe it is worth it.
In the OP, when researching a trip, using AI saves me many hours of time and in that time dozens or hundreds of searches. Net impact, not sure on the power consumption but would guess it is about the same, plus saved hours of my time.
I still enjoy parts of the trip planning, so I am still doing this on my own, but over time will probably allow AI to help me in those areas too, maybe even check my work to see if I missed something or suggest any improvements based on what we like to do, see, value, etc.

If you haven’t seen this blog post about AI, from someone who involved in the industry, and how it is changing, I would recommend it. Not to scare you but to get your mind thinking ahead about what we need to do to be prepared.

Just curious, has anyone used this to plan a trip. I’m playing around with it. Seems like it may work.
Reminder to ALL - let's re-read the OP please. Here it is.

That was a great essay. Pay attention to the part where Claude was able to independently write it's own update, ie., it independently improved it's functionality. One analogy I read likened AI and the coming AGI to an invasion by an alien species technologically and intellectually superior to humans. Humans are atop the evolutionary food chain, not because we're physically the dominant species on the planet but because we're intellectually the dominant species. Homosapiens outlived Neanderthals, who were physically superior to homosapien only because homosapien had a more efficient neural network.

Get thread back on track or it will be closed. I posted one warning, you disregarded it. Show some respect for me and the OP please!

It was written and posted without seeing your previous post. Is it possible on here that that can happen? Meantime, were I a moderator and had I diverged on say a thread about trucking, to a screed about ethnic truck drivers footwear, that's would be perfectly fine, as I recall it being. Or had I continued my screed by referring in another thread to the trucking company which I previously ranted employs those ethnic drivers as the worst trucking company of them all, that would be okay too. Because there's apparently two sets of rules on here.

If AI is so great, why does it have a disclaimer about its accuracy or lack thereof? I will plan my trips the old fashion way..with my brain. It still works fine after all these years.

Trip planning via AI can be a fun experiment just to see what it offers. I use AI a lot in coding, it is amazing. I would stick with my primary trip planning tool but it would be interesting to see what AI could add to the plan, it can't hurt. It may know or more real time issues to consider such as events going on and why to avoid an area. I'll never forget my attempt to be a star attraction in the middle of a Sturgis gathering. Still dealing with PTSD from that. AI could also offer suggestions on what to see at a destination, something we've relied on TripAdvisor for. AI would/could be great for this as well.

The brain is still the best planning tool. As a certificated private pilot I believe all GPS/AI aids for ground vehicle travel should come with the same warning as aviation GPS - it is only for situational awareness - flight planning the old fashioned way is an FAA flight requirement. E.g. the odd news article I saw today where an Amazon van delivery driver blindly followed his GPS onto a mud flats used by British forces for live fire training!
