Cheaper Florida Alternative For Winter RV Lot Rent

We have inquired and thought about purchasing an RV lot for a few years now. Our interest has always been tied to the SW Florida area. The main incentive for investing in this option was to offset spending $5,500 to $6,000 each winter for rent plus have a place we could stay parked if a medical emergency came up.

While checking a park in Frostproof, which had deeded lots for sale, we visited another park a few miles away. It was a rent park with a mix of park models and RVs. It was one of the nicest parks we have visited with very nice facilities. They offered long pull thru sites (102' x 40) and back-in sites which were about 40'x80' with a 10'x10' shed.

Regular high season rates were cheaper that the Ft Myers area, saving us about $1,200 to $1,500 depending on if we stayed 4 months or 5 months.

But then the park manager brought up the "full timers" option. She explained that they would rent a premium site (40' x 80' with 10'x10' shed) for $380 per month. At $4,560 per year it was too good to pass up. You use the shed as your own and while you are not on the lot they do not rent it to others. We will be signing the first annual contract with them this week. We will now be spending 5 or 6 months in Florida.

There may be other RV parks that offer this option but we had never heard of it.

Sorry, haven't been on for awhile. The CG where we leased is Rainbow RV Resort, Frostproof FL. They have a website with good info and some good pics. We are planning on being back down there on our lot before the first of October.

Since posting this originally back at the end of 2019 we went back and "officially" signed a two year lease on a premium site. We have now been at this resort for a full winter season. We have become familiar with the facilities and made some really good friends.

I was mistaken on the original cost that I posted. Our lease was for $287 per month for 2 years. That makes it $3,444 per year. Heck, we paid more than that for 3 months staying at a resort in Ft Myers that wasn't nearly as nice as this one.

I am refreshing this post just to let folks know that a handful of premium sites are becoming available. There apparently have been a few folks leave or move on to park models, so until April 1st it would be possible to get a $287 per month site lease.

This area of central has a lot to offer. It is less congested but still has everything you would want. What we really like about have a leased site is that we can leave our golf cart in our shed down here and if for any reason we want to return to Florida prior to our normal winter stay we simply show up and park on our site. It is our site and no one is allowed to use it except us.
