Dirty ice cubes

Hey guys….was wondering if any of you with a Whirlpool refrigerator have had ice cubes start coming out with grit in them. (See pic). After doing some research, (and after flushing through many batches of ice) it appears that the coating on the ice cube trays breaks down over time and starts to get released into the cubes. This does not show up in the water from the fridge…just the ice. I am going to order a new ice cube maker (about $100 or less) and it is pretty easy to replace, but was wondering if anyone has seen this in their RV…or even their home.

Some say that the salt from the water softeners can make this worse…especially if you leave water in it between trips…something I have done at times. I will be making sure that it is empty going forward.

Every ice maker I have replaced was anodized or just aluminum uncoated. Brown is dirt/salt deposits. I would clean with warm vinegar.

Thanks. It is not the filter….as the filter is new and the water dispenser is clear…

And yes, I think I could clean the tray with warm vinegar, but it looks pretty cruddy…and it has likely lost its anti stick coating…
