It was suggested to us to use a hitch that fits the hitch basket carrier on top and trailer on bottom but our hitch basket is too deep front to back so I can either get a shorter carrier or some sort of extended to in essence make the hitch extension longer.
I’m not sure if I do that if it will affect how the trailer tows or pulls though.
Any suggestions would be great.

Extending the hitch does impact your towing and weight limits on tongue weights.
Think about a shovel with a long handle, the handle is increasing your leverage, increasing the forces you are able to place on the shovel tip.
These same physics are at work when you enters a hitch. Be very careful when doing this.

I would get a hitch basket with less length before adding yet more of a moment arm off the back of the tow vehicle. I typically only recommend "Haul Master" products to folks with very, very good insurance or total owned assets less than $15.
