Over the last few years I have contemplated the switch to a newer motorhome and we have looked at many but just couldn’t pull the trigger. We love the layout of our current coach and the lack of quality in newer stuff was disappointing. While ours is far from perfect in its build quality, over the 11 years that we have owned it I’ve done all maintenance and improvements myself so I know it very well. For what we use the coach for it’s pretty perfect for us so we’ve decided to keep it for the foreseeable future. While we were casually searching I was also searching for the right company to repaint it. Our paint was in very good condition overall but the know issue of paint checking was continuing to progress. Being a “car guy” with many restorations under my belt, attention to detail and quality are important to me. My wife insists that I need meds to combat my passion for this.
While searching for what I thought was the right shop I came across a thread posted by another Monaco owner who had the siding replaced on his coach and also repainted. Side replacement is the only way to really eliminate the potential of the paint checking reoccurring. After conversing with him a lot about his experience, the quality of the workmanship and how the work was holding up as a year or so passed I reached out to the company, S&S Automotive/Coach Division in Wakarusa, Indiana. One of their customer reps, Paul, was knowledgeable and very patient in answering my never ending questions regarding their processes and materials that they use. This interaction provided the confidence that I had finally found the right facility to trust in this significant project.
I know this undertaking is not for most folks but for us it was the right way to go. We delivered the coach to them later in December and will plan on picking it up in late April to early May.
Follow along as I post the progress regularly. This post will show from start to where it is currently
