We are planning a trip from Texas to look at the beautiful fall foliage heading toward Maine.
Best dates to see this?
Any recommendations on routes?
We prefer not to tow our trailer and truck this time...will we need it?
Preferred full hook up campgrounds for Class A along the way?

Be sure to spend a couple days in the White Mountain area of Vt. Mid Oct is usually a good time but it’s been unusual dry this year so we may see the leaves turn early. Also, would definitely recommend a toad. Much more enjoyable on the smaller roads sightseeing.

Around the end of October we have gone to Gatlinburg TN to see the leaves. Great scenery with lots of other things to do. While seeing all the colors we would travel over to Cherokee to the Indian reservation. Pickup things and maybe go to the casino. I would bring your toad as there are a lot of pretty routes to take along small and wondering roads.

Fall foliage is a trick to catch and it doesn't always happen as there are factors that contribute to the colors. I tried to time a trip to Mountain Falls Resort in NC and there was not much color that year. And it changes based on location like a rolling wave. Here in VA we get a fall foliage report, typically starts mid October I think. Best to research the destination and see if you can find reporting on fall foliage and peak for that specific location.

When do campgrounds start closing in ME, MA, VT & NH?

It is tricky to catch the foliage . I agree with a previous post about the White Mountains. You have to research when the rv parks close. Many are not open after early October. If you do not catch it right, you will still have great views, and charming towns. Good Luck! Judy D
