Looking to buy our first r v. We're going to be traveling 1-2 months at a timostly traveling o cities were boondocking is a strong possibility. It's just a twol of us and a tiny dog. Our budget is $50,000 or less. Something between 24' - 30' really like the mercedes V6 diesel ( Or so I think) As with everybody feel economy and reliability are huge factors. I am mechanically inclined so fixing little things around the rv itself. Shouldn't be much of a problem. I'm really just starting to learn about these and really want to be able to make an informed decision. looking towards the people have been doing this for a long time. In order to get your experience to help me. Thank you so very much for your response.

This is what I did and it worked very well.
First, decide what you must have, what you want, and what you can live without. Then start looking at floor plans, types (A, B, C, etc) and get an idea of what you can afford.
Once you have an idea, go visit every RV dealer within a weekend radius of your home. My (then) girlfriend and I jumped on the bike and took off on a Friday and visited every dealer within 100 miles, spending two nights in motels. We made a weekend date out of it.
Finally, visit a local dealer that is not a chain. (Camping World is terrible) Spend some time with a sales associate and go over what you want and your budget.
This person will start the search and find you the RV that you want.
It may take a few months and looking at a few RVs that don’t fit. Be patient.
Our 5 year old Georgetown has been everything that we want with almost zero unexpected costs.
(If you’re willing to travel, Carpenters Campers in Pensacola is our dealer.)

Like Dan mentioned, having patience to wait for the right one to show up once you know exactly what you what will certainly help with getting a very nice one. Assuming you are looking at used RVs, rvtrader.com is a great place to look at all kinds of RVs that are for sale. It will help you identify what works best for you. Good luck in your search.

One major thing that is not talked about enough!!!

When a dealer won't give you information like estimated monthly payments! Unless you sign a contract, saying that they will rip it up after you get the quote!!! Run! That thing is a contract, they plan to hold you to!!! Many articles are written about this practice, trust your intuition, not their salesmen's tactics!!!

And yes I have asked them for an estimate on a rig, and they hooked me up on this tactic. Luckily I had done my looking, and desired the rig, or we would have put on the gloves. In none trusting for a reason!

Optimum RV in Spartanburg tried this with me. A contract is a contract, never sign anything you're not fully committed to! They are trained liars and will squeeze you for every penny they can, support a local, family owned dealership.
