Question.

We are still new to a Class A. Presently i tow a 2017 Equinox behind our Motorhome.
We just purchased a 2025 GMC Sierra 1500 4x4. I am considering flat towing behind Motorhome.
Before i get it set up to tow. Manual says to put Transfer case in neutral. This is easy enough to understand. Also it says to disconnect Battery so Parking brake does not engage. This where my question comes in. If battery is disconnected does it effect the unlocking of steering?

Thanks

I have a 2023 GMC Sierra Elevation which doesn’t have steering wheel lock. Some models do and some don’t from what I understand. Mine tows great

My understanding from reading other posts is that you 100% have to be on flat ground so that the parking brake does not engage automatically. And then you put the truck into ACC mode right before you unhook the battery it seems. I've never done it... consult the manual:

see page 413 for dingy tow instructions

I’ve helped a couple friends with an Electric battery disconnect button on their new Yukon and Escalade.

Yes, the EPB is the bigger you must be careful with. But, following the procedure, neither of them have ever had issues; whether with the EPB or steering lock.

First hiccup, Transfer case went into neutral, I could not get it back to 2 wheel high. Followed instructions on manual. Tried a dozen times. Had to call to have it toad to dealer. Driveway is on a slight incline, thought that maybe the problem. After coasting it into street on flat ground still would not engage. As we were putting it on flat bed parking brake kept engaging, Now i see why it is important to disconnect battery.
Once at dealer as soon as it came off the truck it came out of neutral. Service is keeping it to check it out. We did try several times putting into neutral shut truck off and start it back up it went into 2 wheel dive automatically. The manual does not state that. It says to hit 2 wheel high once with Parking Brake engaged.

Truck is less then 3 months old and 2175 miles on it.

See what they find out.

I tow a 2025 Chevy Silverado 1500 behind my DS 4369. I installed a battery disconnect switch under the hood. After hooking up and placing the transfer case in neutral, I shut the engine off then turn it back on without applying the brake, so the engine don’t start. Make sure the E brake is not applied and the steering wheel is not locked. Then turn the disconnect switch off. You can lock the truck manually and unlock with the key. I’m guessing your GMC is similar.

I’ve looked it up several places and, just as with all the newer electronic shifts and EPB, you MUST follow the sequence. It’s a very long one, and I’ve seen a couple versions but have you seen this article?

What I do for myself, and others I’ve helped, is to render these ridiculous wordy instructions down to a simple step by step list with BOLD letters to indicate the critical points. Really helps. I’m sure your. Just gotten out of sequence at the stage of reconnecting power vs starting.

Thanks Freightrain and CaptainGizmo.

I would think that everything is the same on the Sierra.
