Greetings--

I am looking at a 2018 Dutch Star 4369 with 37K on the odometer. The price is right but one big issue is the front passenger seat shows wear. My question is: Is there a coating one can apply that will match the seat color to renew and hide this wear? The driver seat is okay. Has anyone ever only had just the seat part reupholstered?

Thank you!

Laurent

Absolutely you can have the seat redone, and there are people out there who can do a flawless job no We had our last coach completely reupholstered by an automotive/boat upholsterer who did a fabulous job. There’s lots of choices of fabrics. There is a known problem with the Newmar chair fabrics from about 2017 to 2020(??)

When we had our last coach done, they did all of the valances all of the seating areas and the other trims we paid for the material and I I think it was about $3700 in 2020

Great suggestion. Thanks Steve.

Be aware that all the Flexsteel furniture will eventually do this.

This company is an ex-employee of Flexsteel that has all the patterns and I understand does excellent work.

A lot of people have used these folks…. My seats are also starting to show wear and will be planning a trip to get them redone. But not at Newmar.

X3 on Bauer. They redid our entire 2017. If you get the numbers off the tag on the seat I believe Bauer can send you complete replacement covers that you or an upholsterer can use to redo the seat(s).

This advice just gets better and better. I saw a small blue tag under the seat. I assume that is what they need?

Call Bauer. They will tell you what # to look for.

I ordered kits from Bauer for the Captains chairs on my 2016 Dutch Star and re-covered the seats myself. I'm very happy with the quality of the kits and with the finished product. The seats look better than when new. The cost was about $1,700 for both chairs.

Old seat on the left. Recovered seat on the right. Bauer did a great job.

You might ask Bauer to look up invoice #000585 dated April 6, 2022. They replaced all the coverings on our 2017 DS4018. I’m sure it has the info they/you need. If you need a copy of the invoice PM me if Bauer doesn’t have it.

There should be labels under your seats with part numbers that Bauer can use….

I don't know if anyone mentioned... Bauer is a company that actually has ex-flex steel employees. They have the patterns for your upholstery. They can use the # on the tag to bring out the correct pattern. They will give you a site to look at colors. Your old chair's covering color may not be available...and chances are it was an inferior product to begin with. Bauer will link you to the fabrics they use...and you can get a rough idea. From there...find a few, and ask --- they will send you little samples that you can actually compare to you old color if you are trying to match -- or just get a good feel for which you prefer. From there...you can have them make the covers and send them to you to have swapped out locally, or DIY. OR you can schedule a meeting at their location. We went last summer. They have electric for you to hook-up. We arrived the evening before, and there were probably four coaches there including us. They told us to just open a blind or peek out when we awake and the tech will come over to the coach. We stuck our head out...and he came over to chat... brought back a dolly...was in taking out the two Captains chairs in no time. He also tested the switches in the pedasle and put a new bearing on the base. They really go the extra mile. They took it into the shop...and later that day were out to reinstall the finished product. They gave us the option of replacing the foam in the seat...and since we expect to keep this coach for a very long time...we accepted that offer.... WOW. I didn't realize how much 8 1/2 years make the old foam kinda not so comfortable. They will keep you old FLEXSTEEL logo if you want...but they replaced ours with a nice new BAUER logo. We are super happy with their service from start to finish. I think we're going to skip this year...but in the upcoming years...we'll go again...as we need for the dinette...which is already starting to crack, but not full on flake. Then the two sofas...which are still in pretty good shape...basically because we always keep them covered. I can say without hesitation...sunlight is what destroys the old fabric. Ours started with the Co-pilot seat...which has the sun beating in the door window. The other furnishing stay shaded most of the time. But eventually they all get enough sunlight. And wear. Probably why one side of our dinette is starting to go.

I can't recommend them highly enough. We added it to a trip which took us to Bauer, and Nappanee, and then had a fantastic time touring Michigan. Make it a trip...you'll have a blast.
