I will be taking delivery of my new Baystar sometime this December. I will be towing a 2018 Ford Focus hatchback which I used as my toad with my Leisure Travel Van with no issues. Here is my concern now, the height of the hitch on the Baystar is approximately 23" the height of my Demco baseplate tabs is 11" a difference of 12" to make up to get to level. I have a Demco Dominator tow bar which does have a 1.5 inch adjustment, and per Demo they recommend no more than 3" out of level from hitch to baseplate. So if I subtract the 4.5" from the 12" delta I am left with needing a 8" drop hitch adapter. Is this going to be a problem where I bottom out going into driveways exiting gas stations...etc...?
I am seriously considering installing a lift kit on my Focus and getting larger tires this would give me approximately 3 inch lift. So I would need a 5" drop hitch adapter.
Has anyone else had this issue with their tow vehicle? I really don't want to invest in another toad... the ford focus is the perfect size and weight for our needs.....
thanks

Tony

I can’t answer your question as far as grounding the hitch but I can say that 8 inch drop hitches are common on gas motorhomes for the reason you describe including our southwind years ago and my brothers Tiffin.

Cheers.
