For those that can play these panic times can make a killing (or lose their arse). That's not me but man, what an opportunity if you know what you're doing.

This is why we pay someone "who knows what you're [he's] doing!" It ain't for the faint of heart!

We hope they know what they’re doing and if not they get fired.

Well, track record tells you a lot. Our financial advisor has about 35 years of stellar performance behind him. As a result, he's made us a very good return on our investments. You do have to be very careful in choosing a qualified financial advisor, however. And, you can't be afraid to fire one that isn't performing to your expectations.

It’s just funny money, right? One day you make 50k next you lose 40k. It’s all good.

I would be the worst sideline coach, I just don't trust anyone to deal with my money. I did use a company once referred to by TD Ameritrade years ago, I wasn't impressed but the economy was also in the dumps back then. Come to find out that company is no longer referred to by TD Ameritrade as they didn't do well. I just wish I had the time and desire.

As a retired Financial Advisor, I have to quote Warren Buffet...it is wise to be fearful when others are greedy, and greedy when others are fearful. Time to be greedy...

And it’s not just stocks that got hammered last week...I’m in a fairly conservative portfolio, and was down 8.5% last week; of course, got back more than a third of that just today.

Sounds like our portfolios are pretty similar. The numbers you cite are just about the same as ours. And, I like the Warren Buffet quote!

Isn’t it great that we HAVE a portfolio !

I haven't figured out how to like a post, but what TJ said. Many have said the best thing to do in times of turmoil, usually is nothing - that is if you are invested in a long term strategy.
