A quick question. How long do you drive for fuel after your gas gauge hits 1/2 tank? We don't have to guess where the gas stations are with all the apps available. I drove 140 miles after hitting 1/2 tank, knowing there was fuel available at roughly that mileage. Thoughts?

The words of wisdom I hear is you don’t want to get below 1/4 tank as you will not be able to fire up your generator in the event you have to pull off for unexpected reasons. Most people start planning to fill around the 1/2 way mark as you can only fit into certain places and many of us use a fleet card for RV’ers that discounts diesel at some truck stops so fuel planning is advised as part of your trip planning process. Hope that helps.

Lowest I've been is 1/3 of a tank. Fortunately we've been able to schedule all but one fill up at TA locations (TSD fuel card) without any issues.

That is great info. I did not know that. I have had mine pretty low. Low enough to see the low fuel light when I knew I was getting close to home. It had a DTE of around 170 miles per the info display.

I general fill at half or sooner. Roughly at each Flying J (on roads that have them).
Never know when you will be stuck in traffic for two hours.

When I worked on High Voltage Construction Crew, the rule was never to let any of the rigs get below `1/2 empty. Reason, you never know when "that dreaded emergency" will get you. If during travel day, I might wait until I find a Loves because of the discount fuel program I have, but we will always fill up prior to overnight, if lower than 3/4 full. We stop during day if at or below 1/2 empty while traveling. I check DEF tank every other day and fill up it as well. Our coach gets close to 10mpg, so if the tank gauge says 1/2 down, I know I need 50 gallons or so of fuel. Handy that!!

For me the mentality is not to wait until I see the gauge at a specific level THEN start looking. I plan out fuel stops days or weeks prior to the actual travel day. I plan to get fuel once a day, prior to stopping for the night.

At 7mpg avg, and with 120 gallons capacity, that is roughly 840 possible miles on a tank, but we don’t usually drive more than 500. When we do a 600+ mile day, I will plan to fill up around the 3/8 point.

Our mantra is “Travel on the top half of the tank!” Rarely do we let the coach go below the halfway full mark. And, like others have said, we establish refueling points in advance, though don’t slavishly adhere to them if something comes up.

Exactly, well said.

Being a Gasser, I can stop pretty much anywhere. The advantage of going to truck stops does not help me much as the gas pumps are set pretty much like any other gas station in most cases. There are some truck stops that have gas pumps for RV's but that seems rare. So with gas stations pretty much everywhere I go to between half and a quarter before I start looking. However if I stop for some reason and I am at a half I will go ahead and fill up.
