I’m weighing all of my options and I’m curious what people are getting for mileage towing a fifth wheel that weighs 9000#-9500# using a truck with a large gasoline engine such as GM’s 6.0 or 6.6 liter.
Thanks!

2019 Ford LXT F250

8 - 9 towing 5th wheel 13 - 14 not towing.

That's a light fifth!

With a gasser frontal area is just as important as weight!

My fifth grosses at 8700# I run light carrying supplies in a double tow setup to keep pin weight down. This setup allows for my 1500 RAM to tow! 5.7L 8speed trans. 20 MPG average 13MPG average towing!

Back in 83' they made lower profile RVs!!!
All in all my choices come from a life history of trailer/RV life! And old is a choice, not a necessity!

We Tow a 5er that checks in at 13,500. 43', pull with F250 diesel HD Tow pkg. Round trip to St Louis from Dallas last April Averaged 11.6 mpg. Love the truck!! At 65 (tow speed) turning 1500rpm.

I had a 5th wheel about the same weight and towed with a Nissan Titan XD gasser. Pulled it great, but loved to drink. 16mph empty and 5mpg towing the 5th wheel.

My travel trailer weighs 11,960 loaded for camping. I tow with a ram 2500 hemi and 4.10 gearing.
Average is in the 8.5 mpg range overall. Don't use the computer generated mpg as they are seldom accurate. True mileage is hand calculated.

AnD likely only accurate if you pull the mileage from the GPS.
