I have a small Class A motorhome with an Onan 4000W generator which has functioned very well and reliably. My wife and I are thinking about downsizing and are interested in a Thor Ford Transit Eddie Bauer 22ET, a small Class B+ motorcoach. It has many features that we really I like, but the location of its Onan 4000W generator is concerning. The generator is located beneath the vehicle floor and almost dead center just behind the rear axle. It can be accessed only by going underneath the vehicle. I am concerned that access for routine maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, etc. would be inconvenient at best and may be difficult because of the location, but I have not been able to find reviews or comments about this specific issue. Also, the generator in that location might be subjected to more dust/dirt/road spray when traveling than generators in more typical locations.
My question is this: Would the location of the generator on the 22ET with its difficult access and perhaps more exposure to road moisture/dust/dirt present enough of a problem to eliminate this particular Class B+ model from our consideration?
