Well with winter blasting us to smithereens in the great North East, and all this talk about moving to Florida. I was thinking what about an alternative to Florida?

You see my wife has rheumatoid arthritis, the cold really does a number on her joints. They say a warmer dryer climate would be a lot better for her. SOooooooo how about Arizona or even Texas in the winter months?

I really don't know anything about the cost of living in either state compared to Florida. Are RV resorts or campgrounds more prevalent in the winter months in these states? Are the prices more reasonable than Florida?

Being from PA Florida is like 1000 miles from us with a straight shot right down I95 South. Naturally both Arizona & Texas are over 2500 miles away. But do they offer anything better or less than Florida?

So give me your opinion on what you think of these western states compared to Florida for a winter stay of a least a month.!!!

We like the phoenix area. CG pricing is reasonable, and certainly cheaper than FL. There are mega-resorts out there that are huge. For our style of glamping, we figure a minimum of $5k/month in FL. Our favorite in the phoenix area is roughly half that the last I checked.

And the Phoenix area is much drier than most of Texas.

We like the desert a whole lot more than Florida. Dry heat is so much easier on the body than a humid sauna. There are LOTS LESS bugs!!! and , it seems, far fewer people as well. It cools off nicely at night for a good sleep (with open windows). South east Texas is still pretty humid. Once you hit Hill Country the climate is a little more pleasant. Once you pass Hill country there isn't much to see so once we leave San Antonio we just boot it west. There are plenty of resorts in Texas, Arizona and Southern California. If you are into Golf, the Phoenix area has lots. California has Palm Springs, Palm Desert and plenty more.

We are in Ft McDowell AZ for the next three nights. Lots of snow birds here, evidenced by the various license plates. I can tell they are set up for several months. Today is barely cloudy, and its supposed to hit 72. There is a 85% chance of rain on Saturday, which lasts one day and waters all the desert plants.

Eagle View RV resort. Almost at capacity, but very quiet. Scottsdale is about 20 - 30 min away.
