After lots and lots of research, and reading many good reports about support, then checking out at an RV show, we decided on Grand Design. We were looking a Lance, too, but decided to save a little money and see how the “RV thing” was going to work for us.
We wanted a couples trailer, matching up to our half ton truck, so it boiled down to MLE and MKE. The plus for the MLE was the dinette. The plus for the MKE was the huge amount of counter space. We decided we did not like the counter layout in the MLE and knew the dinette table would end up being for food prep and, of course a repository for various things.
We we a little hesitant about the Murphy bed, but went with the MKE b/c of the counter space and we love it. We don’t eat inside much so the dining table isn’t a big deal. When we do eat inside, we turn the table 90 degrees and use a couple chairs.
We weren’t sure about the Murphy bed but we love it now. Every time we put it up it reminds us what a wasted space a bed is, and how handy the couch is for putting on shoes!. Plus, as a horizontal surface, for us a bed would accumulate a bunch of stuff. The shorter length of the MKE also will enable us to get into areas of a few parks we like that we otherwise couldn’t, so spaces are easier to get.
I don’t know anything about Alliance, but from our experience using our MKE, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend GD.
