@Phillbo and you pay the credit price thats posted on the big LED sign. With a card I usually save 0.15 -1.00 of the posted prices. With any "trucker's fuel card," you will pay at the pump, and you must use the trucker's fuel aisle. Make sure your filler pipe is large enough to accommodate the high-flow nozzle.

So, what if I try to use the truckers pump without any fancy truckers card? Do I have to go inside and pre pay?

I just use the regular pumps since I know what I'm paying and my rig is less than 50'.

Im installing a 60 gallon tank next week so the high flow may be worth all the card juggling.

I also avoid the interstates as much as possible so very few truck stops.
Why wouldn't you use " the fancy truckers card"? That is of course you are rich and saving at times of over a $$$1.00 per gallon, aka $60 on your new tank!

I've been with Open Roads for several years and appreciate their discounts, and maybe better their customer service. Call them, they answer. But, I read about Greelane over the winter and signed up.

This past Spring traveling to Florida from WNY State, and back I started using Greenlane. Why, because as we were headed down the interstate I would ask my DW where the next fuel stop was where we could use either card. Bingo, GL is good at Pilot/Flying J's, and OR is not. Enough reason right there to have both cards. Options!

While I've not gone beyond my card activation, my understanding is there are two options to pay. Credit card which tacks on the usual service fee which could defeat the savings, and fund your account which seems to be via an ACH transaction which would take a few days.

My concern with funding the account is that Greenlane (8TK) is now a bank per se and responsible for all moneys in funded accounts. If they get hacked then what?

I would really prefer @GreenlaneOfficial operate like Open Roads and draft my account when I use the card. This way they are not holding my funds nor do I have to plan in advance and ensure sufficient funds are added. I don't want the liability of someone being compromised holding my funds when not officially a banking institution.

Correct me if I'm misunderstanding the money side of this.

You are understanding correctly. I have a separate account, the same one I use for Open Roads, and I keep a very low balance. The problem I have is that it takes 4-5 days for the funds to become available for Greenlane after I've initiated the transfer.

If you're gonna be hacked by a bank, or any institution in today's world, there really isn't a heckuva lot you can do about it. Sure, you can get LifeLock and personal identity protections, but that would only come into play after ABCD Bank gets hacked, or EFG Healthcare, or even this forum.

We use a separate account for the funds we use.

When we setup that account we specifically had the overdraft protection turned off.

Only keep in the account what we need and transfers are immediate since writhing the same bank.

I don't understand. My understanding is you have to move money to Greenlane which apparently occurs via ACH which takes days. Money in a separate account is good, but your money at a non financial institution is my concern. Why can't they just draft my "separate account" and not have to hold money in their system?

That would make more sense.

We have only used the Open Roads card.

Would be good if they did direct draft the same way.

Neal, I don't understand the wait for funds to transfer to the Greenlane wallet. I'm standing at the pumps and need to add funds. I add $300.00 it's available instantly, no waiting. Maybe you're trying to transfer a greater amount. I've done this several times last year and once this year. I do have a checking account linked.

I haven't used it yet. This is only what I understand from the other users and discussion above.

My experience has been that three times it took 4 or 5 days, and once it was instantaneous. It would be good if the Greenlane rep @GreenlaneOfficial would comment.

Hi Neal,

The Wallet funds by ACH, which runs 3 to 5 business days excluding weekends and holidays. We offer Instant Funding at times, which loads your Wallet right away. We suggest checking in $100 increments to see if it's available for you.

On safety, you're correct. We are not a bank, but your balance is yours. When you link an account, we do it through Plaid, so we never see or store your account credentials. We built security into the app to prevent fraud, and we watch for unusual activity and act on it.

The reason we hold a balance instead of drafting your account like Open Roads comes down to one thing. The card clears every time you're at the pump. No decline, no failed ACH fees, no waiting on your bank to approve a pull in the moment, which is exactly where those payments tend to fail. When money is tight, a card that works is the whole point. You're right that preloading ahead of your week is the tradeoff, and we're building something that takes that step out of the equation. It's landing in the next couple of months, so watch for updates here.

@stang37, you accessed Instant Funding. If the funds are instant, it will show the same date as the day you're loading. You can check $100 increments on the dial to see if Instant Funds are available. Always check the load by date before pre-loading.

That's correct @Texas Clodhopper. You'll see the load by date on the screen which tells you when the funds will land. If you move the dial in $100 increments, you'll see if Instant Funds are available.
