Greenlane Fuel Card

I've been an Opens Roads fan and member several years. Their ease of using, and their customer service is what many companies should strive to copy in today's fast-paced-finger-tapping world of commerce.

However, last winter I signed up with Greenlane if for any other reason than to have another tool in the box. Coming home from our early Spring Florida trip I learned quickly how convenient having Greenlane was. They offer many more fuel providers than O.R., with the biggie being Pilot/Flying J's! GPS shows the station you're at, confirm, purchase fuel only, receive a code, and type that cost into the fuel pump, sorta like O.R. confirmation 4 digit number.

Now, I have sold my diesel rig and I'm back to using 'Ol 87 octane. Already I miss the convenience of using either fuel card at Love's and Pilot/J's among other spacious truck stops

It doesn't hurt to have options and compare discount pricing. It's probably pennies different but it could also mean you find something nearby with one not available in the other. Open Roads is good but they don't cover all the stops. I like the idea of researching to see what my options are.

Not always pennies. Today, coming home from a trip, my best choice close to my storage location was a Loves 15 miles out at $4.35 with Greenlane or at $4.55 for OR - same station. That is about 3 times so far this summer (for me) that GL has beat OR by enough to cover the CC charges and then some at either the same station or nearby competitors.

@osuallen , Did you read my saga? I cannot figure out what I'm doing wrong. Any suggestions? I am disappointed in their lack of customer service.

Ease of use and available customer service is worth an extra $20 in fuel costs, for me anyway.

@Texas Clodhopper - Yes, not sure what to make of it. Very strange issue. Very frustrating to have no customer service.

My post was intended to be in regards that having options can sometimes save $$ - of course the options have to work well enough to have faith in them.

For those that are using a credit card to support your Greenlane purchases do you know if the retail code for the transaction shows as a gas/fuel station or something else. I'm asking because I have a card that offers a attractive % cash back for gas/fuel purchases, but if the retail code is something else then the cash back is substantially less.

No, it does not register as fuel. At least not on the card I have used that has a fuel cash back.

@GreenlaneOfficial Appreciate your presence on the forum and the information you have provided. Some users have reported a 3-5 day wait for funds transferred from their bank to the Greenlane wallet but the same user also reports sometimes the transfer is "instant". So it seems there is some variable regarding the time frame for funds to get to the wallet for the same user. Would you please share what the criteria is for fund transfer time. I have no issue with a 3-5 day timeline on an initial account set up however I also don't want to transfer funds a week in advance of when I may use them. Ideally I would like to fund the Greenlane wallet just prior to my fuel purchase. However based on reported user experience I'm not sure how I can know how long any particular transfer is going to take.

The Greenlane FAQ states "Transfers take 2 - 5 business days excluding holidays and weekends, but most members qualify for instant fund transfers. When adding funds, watch for a "Instant Funds" message which tells you how much qualifies instantly." Which seems to indicate I may qualify for "instant fund transfers". How do I know If I qualify and if I do qualify is my qualification for that specific transfer only or am I qualified for all my transfers?

Would appreciat any clarification you can provide.

I have heard Greenlane is going to be upgrading how the wallet works. From what I know from speaking to one of the reps, the “wallet” will no longer need to be pre-funded before fuel purchase, rather you will select “Diesel Advance” as the funding source during fuel authorization in the app and they will draw direct from your linked bank account in set intervals. It’s essentially a fuel funding line that makes the payment amount exact so you don’t have to have any leftover funds hanging around. Apparently, they should be sending out some communications in the next several weeks.

As for what I know about the wallet now, certain individuals qualify for instant funding while others don’t. The difference is usually due to having a bank account linked that maintains a balance and some activity.
