Gun storage to cross border

We have crossed the border in a motorhome 3 times. We are registered gun owners. As soon as they see our passports, they know and ask where our gun is. We leave it at home when traveling to Canada, and they have accepted that assurance without searching the coach. They always then ask if we have any other form of self protection , and we have to show them our bear spray. It is tricky, and a tad unsettling.
On our first crossing, we saw a motorhome being thoroughly searched with belongings all over the ground. Not fun! However, it is a beautiful country, and the citizens are very friendly. Judy D
 
Their country their laws. If you don't want to follow their laws they don't want you in their country.
Now, I believe that is what was said.

To go further, I stay out of unfriendly states as well. It does limit my travels some, but I don't like giving my funds to places I have been shown don't want the likes of me.
