The tow bar is the reason you cannot back up. The RMEC has nothing to do with it.
Individual that did our first 4 down setup said someone came back after he told them to not backup while towing.

They tried it and busted both struts etc on the front end of the toad.

As easy as they are to unhook and reconnect I’ll never try it and would not recommend trying.

Don't want to debate this...it is not necessary. Just reporting my experience for 4 years. I use a Roadmaster tow bar with a Jeep Gladiator and an Exact Center steering stabilizer. This has worked very well for me. I typically use this setup for backing when when repositioning at a truckstop. I don't see the pressure on the tow hitch as any different than braking. Anyway, it works great for me and I am an actual user. Just passing on a tip from my own experience.
