Newbie per se to the motorhome world. Currently own a Artic Fox 11.5 camper and Cyclone 44ft 4005 toyhauler which will be up for sale.

Our objective is to aquire a medium priced lower mile used DP to pull a fairly heavy stacker trailer.

From my "little" research being in the commercial equipment industry, so far it sounds like we'll need a bare minimum of a FRT chassis, Cummins 450hp and 38'+ feet.

I'm a bit lost from there with pre-emisions/emissions, trans, length, reliable build, parts/service etc.

We have cash, however considering financing and wanting a warranty. With that, it may be our best, or only option to buy through a dealer.

We're open to location of purchase given the right circumstance. Not sure which sections on this forum will give me some good info and feedback, or other forum/sites to frequent.

Any help or guidance appreciated, many thanks in advance!

Welcome. Well, the options are nearly endless and the pre-owned market is saturated so you certainly can find a great deal and as it's a buyers market you can make a great deal. You'll need to narrow down brand, floor plan, and evaluate quality, consider a professional RV inspector, etc. etc. Browse sites such as our classifieds section, RV Trader, etc. As you start to narrow down things you're looking at and you want any opinions from the super friendly gang here then feel free to post links and ask any questions you have. It's a great time to buy a pre-owned motorhome.

Maybe the first question to start.
Would it be more fruitful to purchase through a dealer if we are looking to finance and obtain a warranty?
Or are there comparable private party options out there.

For financing and warranty a dealer is going to be the best chance for both. I have always gotten better financing on my own.

Next question.
Is there better manufactures to look for in the event of breakdown, ease of servicing and and parts replacement?

Kind of like driving a Ford or Chevy, you can find parts and repair just about anywhere.
But if you drove a Jaguar you may be stuck for months.

RV manufacturers source parts from many suppliers. From Cab and Chassis, levelers, slides, water pumps, furnaces, furniture, microwave ovens, windows, flooring, you name it and there will probably be a number of suppliers. Sometimes finding the original manufacturer and the correct parts can be difficult. Most body parts are made in house but not always. There should be sections in your "owner's manual" that list items built into you unit.

That makes sense as it's no different than the other RV's we own.
Didn't know if motorhomes might be a little different that way. Especially with all the running gear.
