Hi everybody,

I'm here to get opinions and research about giving up a "normal" life and hitting the road basically full time. I'm looking at full VA disability and honestly I'm done with everything and want to just travel and fly fish the rest of my life. I would be chasing ideal water temperatures here in the southeast and areas up north with temperature changes. So I figure rarely I'd be in temperature extremes on either end of the spectrum. I would want a dry bath, a full time set up bed, not so big so as to fit in more places, ability to carry secondary vehicle like a motorcycle, and that's really it for camper requirements. Leaves me options and I've been looking at truck campers and fiberglass travel trailers. Not new to campers and because of that past experience I will never waste money on forest river or thor company products ever again. Would love to hear opinions, options, experience, anything from those doing it if I can. Thanks all.

I would look into converting a cargo trailer!!!! Oh wait, I did!!!

The wing drove in, and rolled out. Very basic, but complete and comfortable.
Along walls were entertainment center one side, the other a home made Murphy bed with a fold up table attached to the bottom.
In the front a kitchen counter cabinets and an apartment sized fridge.

The drop gate became a sun deck!

Fully powered by solar on roof.

Sturdy enough that rough roads were never a concern.

I've seriously considered that. I'm a welder/fabricator for a living and always done DIY my whole life. Even seen where Featherlite makes a 16 foot gooseneck that could be a insane starting point for me. Love to see more builds from others in detail to get more ideas.

Then it's right up your alley. I put a trap door in the floor between the axles for a battery box shelf. You can put 4 x 31 series agms down there and balance the weight.

The ceiling and under the floor is 1" pink Styrofoam, the walls are reflectix bubble insulation. That use in the walls made the removal of wood not necessary.

I also made a door frame for the back side, I covered with clear vinyl, so when the gate was down it was a picture window. I installed roll down shade for privacy. All out of the way of the door spring. The door opened so I could drive the bike in.

I put no windows in the sidewalls, just the back vinyl door. Bottom of door was plywood and 5000btu window ac mounted in the door kept it cool.

I now use the trailer as intended, storage, and as a power station(remember all those panels?)!
Best thing about such a project with little work it is a transformer!
