Holiday Weekend Park Occupancy

What are those of you who are out glamping or camping on July 4th seeing as park occupancy?

We are staying closer to home this summer due to some medical appointments, but we decided on Monday to go to the Houston area to visit the kids. I thought I would see if I would luck out and get a spot at one of our favorite parks in the Sam Houston National Forest. I was shocked to find 12 out of a total of 47 full hookup 50 amp sites open. This park is located on Lake Conroe, which is less than 50 miles from downtown Houston. We booked one, and at 11 AM, July 4th, there are still 7 open sites.

There is another thread discussing RV sales, and this is an indication that many RV owners with RVs are not choosing to use them, let alone buying them.

We are in Colorado for the summer. When we were booking this trip It was very hard to find a spot for the weekend itself but before and after spots were generally available but options were limited. We are in Pagosa Springs through the weekend and this campground has only 1 site open. We were in Creede last week and they were fully booked for the 4th.

Flagstaff AZ forest, usually an issue over long weekends, didn't see any influx for this weekend.

This is,of course, dispersed camping.
Although some may claim it is due to the wild fires around Sedona. The last long weekend saw much reduced occupancy.

This has been true for the last 2 years. I would say many owners are staying home.

I called a friend who owns a campground and a tubing company on the Guadalupe River near New Braunfels, TX. For the first time in over 25 years, he has vacant sites.

This is good news for us. Maybe site will be available when needed in the future.


We were scheduled to make a run up to Estes park for an event at this time. Ouray and Leadville campgrounds canceled our reservations.... we will be flying into Denver and renting a car to get to the event.

In New Jersey this weekend. Park is, probably, about 75% occupied but several sites have several tents instead of RV’s.
