Hey everyone,

Wanted to let folks know that registration is open for Hoots 2026. For those not familiar, Hoots is an annual gathering of Newmar owners, no formal organization, no dues, just a week of hanging out, sharing knowledge, and enjoying good company.

This year's rally:
  • When: October 25 – November 1, 2026
  • Where: The Vineyards RV Park, Fredericksburg, Texas
  • Registration fee: $150 (covers T-shirts, opening reception, a few meals, and entertainment)
  • Site fee: $65/night paid directly to the resort

Fredericksburg is right in the heart of Texas Hill Country, great wineries, good food, and plenty to explore if you like getting out. Enchanted Rock is nearby, Main Street has more shops and restaurants than you can hit in a week, and the German heritage gives the town a character of its own.

One thing we're doing differently this year: instead of just bringing in outside speakers, we're featuring member-led sessions. Fellow Hoots sharing what they know, RV tips, travel experiences, hobbies, whatever people want to talk about. It's been a popular idea and should make for some good conversations.

All Newmar coaches are welcome. If you've been curious about Hoots or have been meaning to check it out, this would be a great year to join.

Swip, I just registered and Microsoft thinks the website is unsafe

Swip, I just registered and Microsoft thinks the website is unsafe

Thanks for letting me know and glad you will be joining us.

There is no malware on the site and it's also protected by Cloudflare.

I can tell you that we received a false positive from Bitwarden two weeks ago because the CDN we use for fonts was flagged in their database. We removed that CDN but I'm not sure how long it takes to clear that out and anyone who shares data with Bitwarden will probably flag the site also.

I'm not sure what database Microsoft uses but a lot of them share data back and forth.

Can you send me a detail report from the Microsoft warning? I'd like to confirm it's the cdn issue.

I went back and it doesn't let me access anything explaining why it thinks it is unsafe

newmarkountryklub.com flags on numerous AV scans from a number of vendors as being unsafe due to it including malware components from widget.statictool.com, which is cataloged as being a dangerous webpage due to URL Phishing. This has been true for quite some time (at least several months if not a year if memory serves me correctly). This component's use should be triaged and replaced by the owners of the site and those web pages.

If the creators of the site and/or these pages still believe that these warnings are false positives, they should go through the process of requesting they be whitelisted as outlined by each AV provider. Norton, as an example, has an easy "Report False Detection" under their "More Options >" button of their pop-up alert.

Best,

Which is exactly why the owners web pages that flag as either being malicious or containing malicious components need to triage and remediate those bad components out of their pages or go through the effort of reporting back to the AV providers that they may be the victim of a false positive detection. Until they do that a huge percentage of their customers/users will be blocked from interacting with their web properties. Asking a customer/user to turn off their AV protection is a non-starter.

Mark,

We do submit reports where possible. However many of these tools require that you are have the software installed and make the report from the alert. Being a volunteer group we can not possibly install every piece of scanning software so we rely on fellow Hoots to report it if they encounter any issues. I for example do not use Windows so can not see the alert or file a report. Thanks for your input.

Totally understand. As a commercial software vendor we run our products through multiple 3rd party tools and scans before we release or publish anything. As a volunteer organization, you unfortunately often have to rely on users to share what their machines are telling them or use the free tools that the vendors provide for the use of non-profits and volunteer organizations. Using Norton, as an example, the following free tools are provided to help: Norton Safe web (Website Portal: Safeweb), Norton Safe Search (Browser Extension), Norton Power Eraser.

What appears to being flagged, at least by Norton on my machine, is newmarkountryklub.com's inclusion of malware components from widget.statictool.com, which is cataloged as being a dangerous webpage due to URL Phishing.

That's odd that it would be reported as phishing, "statictool.com" is a Sonar Cube domain. Sonar is a static analysis tool. I believe the widget belongs to an older version of Sonar Cube. I'm not sure why anyone would run that in production or that it is of any real value on Wordpress but that's another issue entirely. Someone saw that a website was making connections out to a third party domain and reported it. Now any website that uses Sonar Cube will be flagged. It's a perfectly legitimate software and domain so I would classify that as a false positive. Due to it's potential scope it's probably already been reported and just making it's way through the process.

We have no affiliation with the Newmar Kountry Klub btw.

Our situation was similar, we were using a CDN for font delivery that got reported by someone. We replaced the CDN and filed a report. However, due to the low level of traffic on the site it may take them some time to actually process the report.
