How many miles

I think about all the places we arrived after dark. Working, leave on Friday or Thursday to get the most of the vacation. We always made it, we get there before dark these days.

The most I ever drove (not in an RV) was 1000 miles in one day for 2 days. I took short naps at rest stops.

The longest in our RV was 700 miles when I was going to Florida to take care of our daughter.

Now maybe 400 at most.

I'm in that 400 mile sweet spot that others have mentioned but will do 500 miles if it's easy driving. I'll also do 100 miles to get to the next place and call it a day but I don't think that was the intent of the OPs question.

Thanks for the reply. I had no intent beyond general curiosity.

I used to drive more miles if on a goal to get to a location to "start" the trip. I usually drive alone and I am a task master. I also would start early and end late but I would have a destination such as a Walmart so I could do it again the next day. Since there are less and less Walmarts allowing overnights, I find myself finding campgrounds which, out of respect to fellow campers, I leave later from and try to arrive earlier to.

My next trip is about a month and beyond a one night at a Loves rv spot, the rest are at least two night stays.

I'm usuually 5-600 mile. I can be where I want to stop to get a good nights rest by 5-6pm.

Today we look more at hours on the road than we do miles. When I'm mapping out a trip I have found that 50MPH is a good solid number. With breaks, fuel, driver changes, inspections and us doing 60-65 on the road (depending on road condition) it works out.

We'll do 7-8 hours if we need to but much prefer 5-6.

There is nothing more entertaining than watching folks back-in to a spot, you have to get there early.

There seem to be more posted online, or even signs in the store lots saying no overnight parking, but many of these locations will permit you to spend the night if you call or stop in to ask.

50MPH is a good solid number.

Yep, that's what I've found that works the last couple of years. I used to use 60 mph and add an hour to cover stops, but it seems road conditions and heavier traffic have changed that estimate.

Yep, my thought exactly, with the miss's approval, of course.

watching folks back-in to a spot, you have to get there early.

And have a nice bourbon, wine, or beer in hand while watching. However, this is second only to sitting at a marina and watching folks launch a boat, or, better yet, pull one out of the water onto a trailer. When my DW and I started dating, one of our first dates was going down to The Small Boat Harbor in Buffalo, NY, and setting up chairs at the boat launch with a cooler of beverages and snacks.
