Hi all, I'm still in research state of RV purchase. Retiring In two weeks and starting to get more serious! I've been looking new and used but have not read or heard of how to inspect holding tanks. Least would be obvious but worried about "poop mountain"! Any thought would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks

Never had this worry but if I did, I would half fill the tank with water (warm/hot if possible), drive the rv around for a few miles and empty the tank using a clear drain hose attachment. if the residue is reasonably clear and drains easily, you should be ok.

It's probably more of a mountain in your mind (ewww) but there are vendors at rally's that offer cleaning services. I saw one at a rally once where the have a wand that goes in and either there is a brush spinning or it's high pressure water, I don't remember, and it can clean them out.
