I've got my areas picked for the trip between VA and WI and I am going off the highway for the most part. One thing I don't like is road noise these days and will make a concerted effort to avoid that.

Most times I don't even disconnect the toad. It's all about getting to our destination, than the siteseeing begins.
That's where I am at the moment. I still work full time (not remote -- though the reality is I could be remote), and when we do take trips, we are typically trying to get to the destination as quickly as possible, to optimize the time at the destination. I'm looking forward to the time when I can actually can enjoy the journey.

I'm the same way, we try and get pull throughs so I never have to disconnect the Jeep until I get to the final destination.

Don’t get me wrong, we’ve been to a lot of places. I was mostly thinking of how we tend to stop at the same national park while road tripping to California.

We drove to Texas back in November, a first; and went to Florida for Spring Break. And of course New Years on Hawai’i. No complaints from the kids… Speaking of which, I was just packing our SUP for camping this weekend and was reminded that the last time we used it was in Kona (the snorkeling equipment was in the bag with it).
I didn't get you wrong.
Of all the people I have known in my lifetime. The gentleman I remember the most for his interesting stories hitchhiked where he would go!!!😲. He recounted many a trip, all with destination. His stories he shared could fill volumes had he journaled them.
Most of the time he would say, a ride would culminate in an invitation from the driver to meet the family! As the night would progress an invitation to spend the night would be presented.

From Ohio to Belize, and across our country, his stories of the people and places he visited, showed the world in a different light!

I was not thinking of you, when I lamented about seeing the world around you. Honestly I was looking back knowing there was a more interesting path I could have (should have) taken.

I don't tend to travel on Interstates. Too tiring and too hectic. I prefer US and State highways. I also have built my own POI file of campgrounds. Ones that I have already sorted thru and fit my personal criteria.

Male - goal oriented. Destination is the goal. I have dvery srop planned, with approximate time of arrival. I almost never stay in a campground unless I have benn driving for three days or more. You will find me at a truck stop or rest area on the interstate.

Perhaps strange, but I love the sound of a jae break at 2 am, and the sound of big rig tires humming down the road. 😎

@AbdRahim have you ever been confronted by a trucker taking a space at a truck stop. I haven’t but I have heard of it happening. I have heard of coaches getting hit by trucks or trailers in the parking lot. It would be nice if they had spaces in the back for us. I guess that’s the whole idea behind the loves expansion with overnight rv stops.

I'll pass on the Jake but I don't mind the rumble of an idling diesel. Been there number of times when I think I'm gonna over do the drive.

Ahhh got rid of the Jake. Now let's band together! Someone reply to this, and we will get rid of the noise!

Honestly, I will choose a Cracker Barrel for the smell any day. Did I ever tell you the reason my sailboat went electric?

Never had anyone express anger at me. Most ignore me. I also have had some very pleasant and friendly conversations with the driver next door. I try to stay out of truck spaces. Most Flying J’s have RV spaces. We are often competing with bobtails. The problem is during peak RV travel season and in certain locations all of the RV spaces get taken8parked mirror to mirror), so I can]not run the generator for A/C or to keep my batteries charged. I did recently stay in a Love’s, which was great. I was surrounded by bobtails and ran the generator all night.

Oh, it is often best to avoid the end spaces, unless no one can turn towards you. The end of the parking lot is ok.

if parked in a truck space, where there is no option, I try to park between two trucks, and don’t sleep until there is someone on both sides for the night. I almost did get hit once by a trucker backing in. Fortunately, I was sitting in the driver’s seat and blew the horn. Of course, I did get scraped by another MotorHome last year.

I think I may be using more rest areas as I need to run the generator to have strong batteries in the morning. The generator does not bother the truckers, as the exhaust is far away from their air intake.
