Okay, about an hour east of Rapid City, SD - I was amazed to see the east bound stretch of about 20 miles completely removed! GONE! I've never seen a highway repair do this before. Eastbound traffic shares the west bound side in opposing single lanes. Impressive sight to see.

Standard practice in Montana! ;) I guess South Dakota has picked up on it. One year, they do the westbound lanes, the next they do the eastbound lanes. I think it has a lot to do with worker safety; no traffic to deal with in the lanes being worked on.

Have seen this practice many times here out west. Actually a pretty efficient way to renew a road surface.

The road was not completely gone. Multiple parts of the road were peppered on my windshield as I was heading west. The trucks carrying the debris are not covered well. Three spider cracks and one chip. 1.5 hours after setting up camp the spider crack ran to a length of 2 feet. Ahhhhh!

I found it, here it is in Minnesota! They dumped I-90E here, and I-90E is gone here too! Someone needs to catch these thieves!
