My anecdote with Amazon was with two 32oz. jars of Olive Salad. Both were broken and had made a mess in the box. Called Amazon for refund and the person said the delivery person had noted they handed the package directly to the addressee, which was not even the case. The delivery person evidently threw the order onto the porch heard it break and entered they'd handed it off to me to cover their tracks. The person on the line was skeptical about issuing the refund but eventually relented.
It wouldn't have made much difference in that case, but if there's one thing Amazon is really bad at, it's their packaging. Got a gallon of MinWax Stain once that been dropped into an oversize box and left just to roll around inside, the lid had of course popped off. Some things you're better off just going the brick and mortar route.
