PSA: 2018 Tiffin Open Road 32sa. It happened at arrival at our Oregon Coast destination. Steps started coming out, grinding noise then stopped. Closed the door, grinding noise trying to retract, then stopped. I bought an Amazon replacement step motor years ago, after reading the forums, but never needed it. I got lucky. I watched some YouTube videos. Both the motor AND the gearbox have a plastic gear with stripping problems. In my case, it was the motor. Easy fix. Ordered another backup motor and gearbox this time. Carry spares and save yourself a headache.

The key I've heard is don't step on the steps while in motion. Wait for full extension and stop before stepping on them.

Longest 3 seconds of my life.

Absolutely! We have always followed this advice. I lube the steps also a few times each season. Last spring I did catch the tire guy coming out before the steps completely deployed. I politely schooled him. I am not sure why the motor gear decided to let go. 🤔 Original on a 2018 coach.
