Melt on surge protector

I have a watchdog search protector and noticed that there was a slightly melted side on the shore side. Electrically it checks out fine the green lights all still come on. Does that mean that it picked up a surge on the shore side and it did its job? Do you suggest getting another one? It seems to work fine.

If it stopped a surge, the surge module would be used up and you would have the appropriate error. More likely is you had a bad connection and a medium to high load and the plug got too hot and cooked it. could have been corrosion or debris on either the male or female side of the connection. A photo would be helpful to show the damage.

So many of the receptacles in RV parks can become corroded and even a slight corrosion can cause "arcing" which can literally melt the prongs on your cord. Also just normal use can cause loosening.

Over time, the brass prongs inside park receptacles become worn or loose. Loose contact creates air gaps, causing electricity to "arc" across the gap, generating extreme heat that melts the plastic plug and even the metal prongs.

Also oxide layer build-up, rust, dirt, or moisture on either the plug's prongs or the outlet's slots increases resistance, leading to rapid heat accumulation under heavy loads.

It's a good idea to apply a thin layer of electrical contact grease to prongs to prevent oxidation and moisture buildup.

not sure how long you’ve had it but I believe warranty is either 5 years or lifetime. Might be worth a call

I’m working with my Bull Dog protector now. Bought on Amazon in 2022. Contacted the company. It has a limited lifetime warranty. They are sending me a replacement. Not sure if it’s a new board or complete unit.

When I called a live person answered the phone. After a couple of questions and an email asking some details they ware sending me what I need. The Park I’m at doesn’t accept packages plus I’ll be moving before replacement could arrive. I checked my next Park and they accept packages. Bull Dog is sending it to next Park.
