Hi all,

What would be the best method for cleaning and prepping a fiberglass roof in preparation for applying 3M VHB 4950 tape and dicor? I’m going to install some solar panels, and wanted to make sure I get the best adhesion. Should I clean with alcohol, denatured alcohol, acetone or something else??

1. Pressure wash
2. Remove old dicor and 3m tape if replacing
3. Apply mineral spirits to area to receive dicor and 3M tape using a clean microfiber cloth
4. Wait for area to air dry
5. Apply dicor and tape
6. Drink beer

Step 1 is probably optional but I always do it before a roof job. A clean roof never hurts.

What MapNerd advises. I wet sand the gelcoat to ensure all is cleaned after Step 4. Followed by another cleaning.
