Hello, I am new here and am interested in discussing a relatively new issue. I live in Canada, so travelling in an RV over the winter is challenging. I do want to use my RV in the winter. I have travelled in the USA, but now, this is a challenge. The reception I got there since January has been less than encouraging, so I am looking for alternatives, such as getting to Mexico by train. Has anyone done this, know of any issues doing it, or have any information on this topic? I understand that a TIP and Mexican insurance are required. Are there other people who may be interested in doing this and want information?
This trip may require a longer travel time frame (three months?) and a single site to load and unload all those interested in going. I don't have all the details worked out, nor do I know all the potential pitfalls, but if there is sufficient interest, I would be willing to help facilitate such an endeavor. Please let me know asap. Thanks

I too am Canadian. We have been wintering south for the last eight years. I have never found traveling in the US challenging. Oh wait, there was that time when we missed a turn and our GPS almost took us into Manhattan with the coach towing the Jeep.

But seriously, Why have your experiences been less than encouraging? I fly a Canadian Flag when parked boondocking and when we use a park and have never experienced any disrespect. On the contrary, We have had more folks this last season stop by to let us know that we are always welcome. I do though, never enter any discussions about politics, religion or the economy.

Will you share your poor experiences with us so we can possibly learn learn from them?

Following..... San Felipe or Porto Penasco is on our agenda for next February....

There are only two major facilities that I know of in Mexico that are capable of loading/unloading cars & light trucks. There might be more. Motorhomes on flat bed rail cars might not be possible because of the ramp incline. The ramps are too short, not designed for long wheelbase vehicles. Depending on your destination, they might be too far south. If you can find a terminal at both ends capable of handling a long wheelbase, the cost will be more than many will want to pay.

I cross the border between Washington and BC sometimes 3 times a week. Yesterday, southbound, I have never seen so many people in secondary. Presumably to be photographed and finger printed, registering for entry. They stopped primary processing because there was no parking at secondary. The wait looked long. What a shame. We've had an undefended border with our best friends and largest trading partner for more than 100 years!
