We used to buy the stuff at a local home owner, give the local home owners a little bit of business.
On our last trip to New England and the Adirondacks of NY two weeks ago, I took empty recycling bins with us to buy firewood at roadside stands near the campgrounds where we were staying. Love the self-service honor system of buying wood. This practice meets most state campground standards for using locally sourced wood.
