Hello everyone. We have just placed an order for our first rv! We‘ve ordered a Keystone Cougar 364BHL fifth wheel. Now all I have to do is get the truck!

Welcome to the group. My brother use to live in Woodstock many years ago. Nice setup, hope you have a lot of fun with it.

Welcome @PJ5rs to the forum and congrats on your new RV. Pictures when you get a chance are a must ?

Welcome, never be bored again. Let the fun begin.

Welcome.

If you haven't bought your truck yet, do yourself a favor and watch this video!!!

Thanks for the link Curtis. I have seen a couple of videos on this and am really working on the right truck. The uvw? Unloaded is 11225. Max is around 140 00ish. I’m currently looking at GMC 3500 HD Diesel. I don’t really want a dually, but I can if I have to. Now I’ll get out to dealers and start looking at actual posted weight ratings to decide.
one question, do you know of what truck stops along I-75 (from ATL-Chattanooga) have scales to weigh all 3 axles? Or do all truck stops do that?

There are a number of truck stops with CAT scales along that route, Love’s exit 283 and exit 310 both have CAT scales

im wondering about how much does the average person load in their campers. I really don’t want a DRW. I’ve heard around 2,000 lbs and then some that say they carry everything its about 3000. Basically, I‘ve found a couple of GMC 3500 SRW that show 11500 GVWR, 7250 rear GAWR, and they say the curb weight on the rear axle is 3126. Total curb weight is 7172. Is it wise to have a SRW? Starting off at 11225, is 2000 normal to load and would that keep me safe in the SRW?

I can understand not wanting to have to drive a dually 3500 all year long if you don't need it except to tow the 5th wheel. That's exactly why I bought a Class A instead of a 5th wheel. I didn't want a dually 3500 sitting in the drive way either. My 1500 crew cab does just fine for driving around and hauling the occasional load in the bed. We tow a Jeep Grand Cherokee behind the coach.

Just run the numbers on the SRW 3500 and the RV you just bought. As long as the pin weight and rear axle weight are within the parameters in the video you are good to go. If nothing else, you'll be ahead of all the others that are using 2500's to pull their 5th wheel RV's!!! The dually is nice in bad conditions and emergency stops, etc. because of the extra set of tires on the ground makes them much more stable than a SRW truck.

NWIP is right. There's lots of CAT scales up and down I-75. In addition to the ones he mentioned there's a set of scales at the 2nd Ringgold Exit.
# 345/#346? There's an old truck stop there.

I really appreciate all the insight. I’ve also heard from a few people with the same camper and they all seem to be a good bit under the 14000 max. I’m still gonna check numbers carefully to be sure. Thanks!
