New to the Forum-question about propane backup

Looking at a Coachman CrossTrail, and note is has a fixed 68# Tank. Wife and I do extensive Winter camping, and getting propane refilled can be difficult in Rockies I've found. Wondering if anyone has experience with utilizing a small 20# tank available @ Walmarts, 7-11's etc as a backup, and how did you tie it in. Can one use the aux outside fitting with a regulator?
