Do they keep a charge when they are not being charged? Generally you can get a good life out of lead acid batteries if you keep them watered, keep them charged up and do not significantly discharge them.
 
I don't keep them plugged in when in storage but I do keep them watered and charged when I am on the road. When at a park they are always plugged in.

Also what is a good life? They are going on seven years and I hope to get the full seven years out of them before I store it for the winter.
 
How long do they hold a charge, if rig is unplugged? You could also load test them to see what their condition is under load.
